Artists: Leslie Barlow, Patience Lekien, Amber Newman, John Matsunaga
Using a variety of different disciplines, all four artists create work that is inquisitive in nature, and advocates for critical engagement in the history of social and racial discourses that continue to plague American society today. By using visual representations that are reminiscent of varying historical moments, current happenings in pop culture, and personal experiences, the artists each construct worlds where the tension between what is artificial and what is real seeks to deconstruct our current vocabulary and re-conceptualize the structures of authority, categorization, and “the norm” that is in place.
